How to Find Us

 

The Trent Center is located at 108 Seeley G. Mudd Building, 10 Bryan-Searle Drive, on Duke's Medical Center Campus. Our offices are on the lower level of the Medical Center Library, which is connected to the Searle Conference Center.
 
Parking is available in the Duke University Hospital North Parking Garage (PGII), which is a 10-minute walk from our offices. (Campus map here.)

Driving Directions

By I-40
  1. Take the 147 Durham Freeway Exit.
  2. From there, take the Elba Street/Trent Drive Exit (Exit 15A).
  3. Follow left onto Trent Drive to the Trent Drive/Erwin Road Intersection.
  4. Turn right at the light onto Erwin Road.
  5. Cross over the railroad tracks.
  6. Before you reach the next light, drive into the Parking Deck on your right.
By I-85 North (from the South or West)
  1. Take the NC 751/Duke University Exit (Exit 170) onto US 70.
  2. Travel on US 70 for approximately 1.4 miles and then turn right onto NC 751.
  3. After approximately 3.0 miles, you will pass under the 15-501 overpass.
  4. Turn left onto Erwin Road.
  5. At the fourth stoplight, turn left onto Fulton Street.
  6. Take the next right onto Elba Street and then turn right into the Parking Deck. 
By I-85 South (from the North)
  1. Take 15-501 Bypass South, Duke University/Chapel Hill Exit (Exit 174 B).
  2. Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
  3. On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street and then turn right into the Parking Deck.
By US 70 from the East
  1. Take 15-501 Bypass South, Duke University/Chapel Hill Exit (Exit 174 B).
  2. Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
  3. On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street and then turn right into the Parking Deck.
By US 15-501 from the South (Chapel Hill)
  1. Take 147 Durham Freeway South (Exit 108 B) to Fulton Street (Exit 15 B).
  2. On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street and then turn right into the Parking Deck.
By US 15-501 from the North (Roxboro)
  1. Follow the US 15-501 Bypass to the right when it branches at the Exxon station.
  2. The street name will change to Duke Street.
  3. Follow Duke Street to its intersection with Club Boulevard, by Northgate Mall.
  4. Turn right onto Club Boulevard.
  5. Follow Club Boulevard until it ends.
  6. Turn left onto Hillandale Road, which changes into Fulton Street.
  7. On Fulton Street, take a left onto Elba Street and then turn right into the Parking Deck.
By 147 Durham Freeway from the East
  1. Take the Elba Street/Trent Drive Exit (Exit 15A).
  2. Follow left onto Trent Drive to the Trent Drive/Erwin Road Intersection.
  3. Turn right at the light onto Erwin Road.
  4. Cross over the railroad tracks.
  5. Before you reach the next light, drive into the Parking Deck on your right.
By Main Street (from downtown Durham/East Campus)
  1. Turn left from Main Street onto Erwin Road.
  2. Follow Erwin Road through two stoplights.
  3. Cross over the railroad tracks.
  4. Before you reach the next light, drive into the Parking Deck on your right.

Parking

All driving directions lead to the Duke Hospital (North) Parking Deck, where visitors may park weekdays from 8am to 4pm. Weekdays after 4pm and on weekends, visitors may try parking in the underground Bryan Building Parking Garage.
 

Walking Directions to the Trent Center (on foot from various locations around Duke University):

Walking from the Duke University Hospital North Parking Garage:
  1. Go to the street level of the Parking Deck.
  2. Walk across Erwin Road to the entrance of Duke Hospital (North).
  3. Walk into the entrance and to the back of the lobby to the bank of elevators.
  4. Walk down the corridor to the right of the elevators, bypassing the Cafeteria.
  5. At the end of the corridor, walk through the four doors to your right, leading outside onto a covered walkway.
  6. Turn left on the walkway.
  7. The only building located directly on the walkway houses the Medical Center Library. It will be straight ahead of you.
  8. Enter through the right-hand entrance to the library.
  9. Walk through the lobby and go down the stairs to the bottom floor. The Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine is in Suite 108.
Walking from West Campus:
  1. From the West Campus Bus Stop facing Duke Chapel, turn right.
  2. Walk all the way to the last building (Davison Building, Duke Hospital South). ne facing your direction.
  3. Enter the door, go up the stairs, and follow the winding hallway.
  4. Take the first available left turn.
  5. Then, take the next right.
  6. Turn left down the stairs across from the gift shop.
  7. At the bottom of the stairs, turn right and follow the winding hallway.
  8. Walk out the back door and straight along the walkway to the Medical Center Library, directly in front of you.
  9. Enter through the right-hand entrance of the library.
  10. Walk through the lobby and go down the stairs to the bottom floor. The Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine is in Suite 108.
Walking from Duke Clinics (Hospital South):
  1. Enter Duke Clinics through the Main Lobby or via the Bridge from the Parking Garage.
  2. Walk straight ahead down the main hallway until you reach the elevators on your left.
  3. Take the elevator to the Basement Level in front of the Food Court.
  4. Turn left after exiting the elevator, and walk through the door straight ahead and up the incline.
  5. At the top of the incline, walk through the set of three doors, located on your left.
  6. Walk through the lobby area and through the back door to the walkway to the Medical Center Library.
  7. Enter through the right-hand entrance to the library.
  8. Walk through the lobby and go down the stairs to the bottom floor. The Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities and History of Medicine is in Suite 108.
Walking from Duke Hospital (North):
  1. Go to the public elevators in the Main Lobby of Duke Hospital (North).
  2. Walk down the corridor to the right of the elevators, bypassing the Cafeteria.
  3. At the end of the corridor, walk through the four doors to your right, leading outside onto a covered walkway.
  4. Turn left on the walkway, which takes you to the Medical Center Library.
  5. Enter through the right-hand entrance to the library.
