Research in History of Medicine

 

The Trent Center’s program in the history of medicine examines questions at the intersection of history, clinical medicine, and public health. While individual faculty have diverse interests ranging from Civil War medicine to child health, all share common interest and expertise in the history of American medicine and public health since 1800.
 
 
Jeff Baker is currently studying childhood vaccine controversies in the United States and Great Britain since 1970 and writing a book on autism in the US.
 
 
Peter English teaches about epidemic diseases and public health and is currently writing a book on the history of childhood obesity.
 
 
Margaret Humphreys continues her work in infectious disease in the U.S. and the American south while her current research explores the history of medicine during the American Civil War.
