Margaret Humphreys, MD, PhD of Duke University, a leading historical expert on mosquito-borne epidemics in the Americas, recently presented congressional briefings sponsored by the National History Center on Zika: Historical Parallels and Policy Responses. The briefings at the Rayburn House Office Building covered the history of Zika’s mosquito vectors and public health programs countering disease-bearing mosquitoes. Professor Humphreys focused on what can be learned from past initiatives addressing similar epidemic diseases.
