Ben Frush, MD, MA, is a hospitalist and palliative care physician who serves as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine.
Dr. Frush went to Duke University for undergraduate studies and then completed medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he also served as chief resident, followed by a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine. His academic training is deeply informed by an intersection of clinical medicine, theology, and bioethics, having previously been a fellow in the Theology, Medicine, and Culture initiative at Duke Divinity School. And he recently completed a McDonald-Agape Fellowship at Georgetown University’s Kennedy Institute of Ethics.
As a scholar and educator, Dr. Frush's work centers on the ethics of medical training, end-of-life care, and the application of virtue ethics in contemporary clinical practice. His recent writing and research explore moral education in medical school and residency, the complexities of clinical ethics consultation, and the preservation of human flourishing amidst the rapidly shifting moral, technological, and bureaucratic landscape of modern healthcare. Through his teaching and writing, he is dedicated to helping students and trainees navigate the unique challenges and opportunities of the medical profession.
