Megan Single, MD, is a second-year child and adolescent psychiatry fellow at Duke University. She earned her BA in chemistry from Rollins College in Florida, received her medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, and completed general psychiatry residency at the University of Florida. In 2025, she will begin forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University of North Carolina.

The Trent Center Ethics Fellowship will support Dr. Single in her exploration of psychiatric and philosophical interests. She is dedicated to integrating severe mental illness, child development, forensics, and ethics into her professional practice. Central to her interest in clinical ethics is the question: What are the ethical implications of the DSM’s flawed static nature in the context of an evolving understanding of mental illness, and how can we actively challenge these limitations to maximize humane moral practices for society’s most vulnerable populations?
