As a current fourth year neurosurgery resident at Duke, I value the intense and personal relationships we develop with our patients and their families during critical times in their lives. I chose to pursue the Duke Clinical Ethics Fellowship given my interest in the informed consent process and a goal of better understanding the give and take between patient autonomy and the physician’s goals of beneficence and nonmaleficence. I hope to better how we can better educate our patients to make informed decisions as I ultimately pursue a career focusing on tumors of the central nervous system.
