While individual faculty have diverse interests ranging from Civil War medicine to child health, all share common interest and expertise in the history of American medicine and public health since 1800. Faculty in the history of medicine teach in both the School of Medicine and the College of Arts & Sciences at Duke.
Jeff Baker has engaged many topics in the history of child health, with a particular focus on neonatology, vaccine controversies, and autism. His current work examines the racial dimensions of the intertwined history of Duke Hospital and the community of Durham.
Rachel Ingold is the Curator for the History of Medicine Collections at Duke University’s Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library. Along with collecting materials related to the history of health sciences, she has presented and published articles related to the History of Medicine Collections.
