Elizabeth Ross has been on faculty in the School of Medicine at Duke University since 1991 and teaches communication skills throughout the School of Medicine at Duke University, including initial skills through advanced communication in complex situations. Dr. Ross is an Associate Certified Coach for students, trainees, professionals and colleagues. Her scholarly work has looked at the effectiveness of dedicated coursework on development of patient-centered attitudes and sharing educational methods to impact interprofessional collaboration. Additionally, Dr. Ross has studied the impacts of coaching on well-being in medical students. Currently, she directs a year-long seminar in the Masters of Biomedical Science addressing the "Art” of healthcare. The power of humanities in health professions education is a key focus of her teaching methods. Her deepest values reside in avenues to improve the communication skills, humanity and well-being of health professionals and patients.
