Rachel Porter is Director of Preclinical Education in the Duke Physician Assistant Program and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (FMCH). She has been an educator for over 25 years, across a variety of academic settings in K-12, nonprofit and health professions education. Dr. Porter teaches in several PA courses and interprofessional electives, focusing on health humanities, structural justice, policy, and equity. Her scholarship has focused on fostering inclusive, justice-oriented learning environments that prepare future clinicians to lead with integrity and compassion.

In her role as a Faculty Associate in the Trent Center, Dr. Porter supports integration of the visual arts and Visual Thinking Strategies as part of the Humanism in Healthcare course. She is a Duke AHEAD member, Co-Chair of the Education Committee for the Duke Anti-Racism Employee Resource Group, and co-founder of the Duke Evolving Allyship to Advance Racial Equity (DEAARE) FMCH affinity group.
