Anthony Galanos, MD, MA came to Duke in 1989 to do a Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine and stayed, starting the Geriatric Medicine Consult Service at Duke University Hospital and then the Palliative Care Service in 1998 at Duke as well. He has been devoted to relieving suffering, finding out what matters to patients and their families, and caring for our own coworkers. Towards these goals, Dr. Galanos has done debriefs around difficult deaths for over a decade, and is committed to systematizing debriefs for clinicians on the front lines.  He has a dedicated research interest in personal and professional grief and its contribution to burnout, relatively unexplored topics, and has developed a cadre of young doctors who share this interest. Tony or "Dr G," as he is known, lectures and teaches frequently in the School of Medicine and the Department of Medicine.
