C. Phifer Nicholson Jr. is an MD candidate at Duke School of Medicine and Theology, Medicine, and Culture Fellow at Duke Divinity School. He holds a BA in Religion and Middle Eastern Studies from Wofford College, with professional and research interests including health equity, theology and medicine, ethnography, global health, and surgical/clinical ethics. These interests have been formed through engagement with medical education, community health initiatives, and experiences in contexts like Palestine-Israel and Sudan. In the future, he hopes to integrate training in clinical ethics into his career as a surgical resident, and bring an interdisciplinary perspective to bear on questions regarding heath justice and moral formation in surgical care.
