Hima Bindu Thota, MD is a surgical resident at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. She studied business management and international business as an undergraduate at Texas A&M University and received her MD from Texas A&M College of Medicine. She is currently a Theology, Medicine, and Culture Fellow at Duke Divinity School, completing her Master in Theological Studies. She plans to pursue a surgical oncology fellowship after residency with hopes of serving as a surgical oncologist in war zones, specifically in the Palestinian Territories. She is passionate about the contextualization of surgical clinical ethics in global health. Her experiences in Gaza have shaped her understanding of how individual beliefs, collectivist culture, and regional politics lead to unique ethical considerations for each people group.
