Jacob is a research associate in the Department of Surgery at Duke University School of Medicine with a background in biomedical engineering and the application of machine learning to clinical and translational medicine. He has historically been interested in clinical ethics from the spiritual and philosophical perspectives surrounding different cultures’ healing traditions and the physician-patient relationship, specifically the ways in which Western medicine differs from traditional Eastern medicine practices. More recently, the intense interest in the interface of artificial intelligence and clinical medicine begs for consideration through a clinical ethics lens. Through this fellowship, Jacob hopes to build a stronger foundation in clinical ethics to support responsible, patient-centered integration of technology in medical care.
